You'll end up with all of them, for the flexibility. And then you'll get curious to try other elements and need to get items to help for that too... get ready for a full inventory. *grin*

You pretty much have to start with Fire as that is the skillset you receive to begin with. Later air, earth and water spells start coming in so you can experiment with them.
You could stay fire the whole game and do well with it. |

The easiest "best" weapon to get is the collectors fire staff from either the desert or southern shiverpeaks...you can add upgrades to it, which makes it better than the individual wand/offhand from the collectors in the same area.
Then there are the green "unique" items, which may or may not be as good, depending on the stats and what you prefer. |

well i got sum info on items i kno the collectors fire wand outside elona reach is 11-22 req 9 with 20% skill recharge and needs 5 minotaur horns and the flame artifact in desert has 20/20 so i figure that is good for a wand +off hand and its cheap i also kno ragos flame wand has the same stat but 10% casting time but is that really worth the 30k to spend on it with chapter 2 so close and is the collector fire staff 20/20 if so thats a good buy. and if ne1 knos if theres a collector flame artifact with +15 energy -1 regen or +30 health maby let me kno and ty for the input thus far.

OK. I've been playing a fire elementalist for a while, and this is what I use:
1. If I'm not getting hit for much damage (because other party members are being attacked) and there are no other special considerations, I used to use the collectors wand (20% recharge) and artifact (20/20). I find recharge to be VERY important, because there's always one most efficient spell in any fight. Actually, my wife farms Sorrow's Furnance heavily, and gave me a Kindlerock, which is SLIGHTLY better than the collector's artifact, except perhaps in disruption-heavy environments (I might pick one up again for those, actually). 2. When I'm feeling under pressure from direct damage, I try to remember to switch to my Defensive collector's staff of Defense with +10 armor. (Note -- that costs a bit, but getting the mods for a +8 armor staff is really cheap.) I probably should also in theory carry a Hale Staff of Fortitude, but enough is enough. 3. If I'm using an enchantment-heavy build, a staff with 20% enchantment extension seems highly desirable. I actually used Galigord's for that purpose for quite a while, but the dear wife found me a Rago's (I love that woman!). An imperfect enchantment mod on a collector's staff would also be a good choice. 4. I tend not to worry much about squeezing out the last 5 points of energy (e.g., from a Nolani Academy collector's wand), given all the other energy stuff that's going on. (Besides, that would be only 2 points now, since I have Rago's staff). Nor do I bother with +15/-1 boosters for emergencies in a skill slot, although I probably should. |
